What are the signs that our Lord's return is approaching? Jesus gave us many signs while He spoke to His disciples in what is known as the Olivet Discourse found in The Holy Bible (Matthew 24).
(1) Beware of False Prophets
The first topic He spoke on was to not be deceived by false prophets: because many shall come claiming to be Him and deceive many.
There have been many false prophets in history and likely many more to come. one that stands out is the man Christians call "the Antichrist" and the "Man of Sin."
He may turn out to be a man with a platform on the world stage who claims to be the Messiah and to have all of the answers to the world's ills.
He may seem like he wants to help lead world peace negotiations, until He decides that peace must be obtained through warfare - and to be a driving force for the Armageddon war's prophesied Israel invasion.
When the Holy Land is surrounded by the world's armies, then Jesus will return and destroy the Antichrist and the false prophet (2 Thess. 2:1-12).
(2) Rumors and Abounding Iniquity
Jesus said that sorrows begin when we "shall hear of wars and rumors of wars, famines, pestilences and earthquakes in different places."
While there have been several wars, famines, epidemics and earthquakes since the Olivet discourse, today is different because of the amount of iniquity: aka gross immorality.
"and then many shall be offended, and shall betray one another and hate one another...and because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold" (Matt. 24:10-12).
Today, we see the prophesied cold-hardheartedness coming to pass. Both politics and social media play big parts in many people being offended, betraying and hating one another.
(3) The abomination of desolation: Great Tribulation
The "Abomination of desolation" will kick off the Antichrist's campaign of persecution and "Great Tribulation" such as was not seen since the beginning of the world to this time, nor ever shall be (Matt 24:15-22).
Immediately after the tribulation shall appear the sign of the Son of Man, the Lord in Heaven, coming in the clouds with the brightness of His glory.
"he that endures to the end will be saved." - Jesus Christ
