"Intensive" was the word used in a report on Tuesday to describe the latest developments in the talks between the U.S., Israel and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia about normalizing the latter two's relationship. According to several reports and sources including the Jewish Press, Saudi Arabia has issued several demands to the Biden administration including unfreezing arms deals and establishing a Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital as a condition for normalizing with Israel.

The U.S. reportedly demanded an end to Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's judicial reform agenda as a condition for supporting the normalization efforts. Reports are that Biden throttled Netanyahu's attempts to both fire outspoken Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and to curtail some of Israel's Supreme Court's powers earlier this year.

In response to the question “Are you aware of phone conversations between the Israeli prime minister and the Saudi Crown Prince on normalization between the two countries, and did the US play any role in this regard?” U.S. State Dept spokesman Matthew Miller said on Tuesday, “We are aware of the reports…I’m not going to speak about any private diplomatic conversations, I will say that as a broader measure, we, of course, fully support Israel’s integration into the Middle East region, including normalizing relations with Saudi Arabia.”

The Biden administration announced plans last week to push for a Saudi-Israeli peace deal by the end of 2023. Also last week at the Arab League Summit, as reported by Christian Commander, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman declared “The Palestinian issue was and still is the central issue for the Arab countries and is at the top of the kingdom’s priorities. We will not delay in providing assistance to the Palestinian people in recovering their lands, restoring their legitimate rights, and establishing an independent state in the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

Interested Christians around the world are paying attention to this developing story because a Saudi-Israeli rapprochement could very likely lead to a Palestinian-Israeli peace deal down the line. Many Christians view a seven-year peace deal between Israel and Palestine as a fulfillment of Daniel's 70 Weeks prophesy that Holy Bible scholars believe provides a timeline for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
