[One] Fear God

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:7).

The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord. God enlightens those who fear Him. Reading The Holy Bible will teach you that those who seek the Lord “understand all things” (Proverbs 28:5).

[two] Ask God for Wisdom and Understanding

King Solomon prayed to the Lord for an understanding heart: to competently judge the lord's people (1 Kings 3:9-12). The Lord was pleased that Solomon did not ask for riches, long life or for the death of his enemies. So God granted his prayer and then some.

[three] Seek the Kingdom of God First

Solomon put the kingdom of God first. The Lord was so pleased with Solomon that he added riches and honor to the king; what Solomon had not asked for. This echoes what the Lord God Jesus taught during the Sermon on the Mount:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you (Matthew 6:33).

By reading the Book of Proverbs – one chapter per day – then one becomes wise in the ways of the Lord. Proverbs is replete with valuable lessons for living by God's standards. themes include alcoholism, gossiping, finance, laziness and family life - to name a few.
