Mormons aka The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints have beliefs, religious texts and practices that are much, much different from orthodox Christianity.
For example, Mormons recognizes and relies on the Book of Mormon for Scripture, while orthodox Christians do not. Sort of the like the Roman Catholic Church relies on the Vulgate, while the orthodoxy does not.
According to Latter Day Saint Mormon theology the BOM is a religious text on par with the Holy Bible. The claim is that it contains writings of ancient prophets who lived on the American continent from 600 BC to AD 421.
The Christian Bible does not list any prophets living in America - especially before Jesus Christ.
Following are a few of many reasons Christians give when saying Mormons are Christians.
[1] Polygamy
“A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach” (1 Timothy 3:2).
While Christians do not believe in being married to more than one spouse at the same time, Mormons have believed in and practiced polygamy since the 1830s. The idea is that polygamy is necessary for Mormons to produce large families.
Both Joseph Smith and his successor Brigham Young had over 40 wives each.
[2] Joseph Smith was Delusional
Joseph Smith evidently claimed to be a prophet and a visionary who was visited by angels who gave him golden tablets that needed to be translated to English.
Smith suspiciously claimed that God gave him the task of continuing the Levitical priesthood that consisted of Moses's and Aaron's family tribe.
[3] Brigham Young Was A White Supremacist
Shamefully, Young who was the Mormon leader as well as Utah's governor, believed that African-Americans were not to be included in the Mormon priesthood. On many occasions, Young taught that blacks were denied the priesthood because they were "the seed of Cain."
Thus for well over 100 years, Mormons kept blacks out of their clergy.
Brigham Young was the successor to Joseph Smith. And Mr. Young had so many wives that even today the exact number is really not known. Some reports say he had over 50 wives and thousands of descendants.
Young founded Salt Lake City and was the first governor of Utah. His governorship began even before Utah was a state.
Much different from the diverse nature of the early Christian Church, Mormonism was founded on principles very similar to white supremacy - if not full-blown white supremacy - and tall tales so extravagant that only the most gullible would believe in Mormon founders and patriarchs Joseph Smith and Brigham Young.
Christians are taught not to follow false prophets and Mormonism was founded on false prophesy. Mormons are not Christians and the truth must be told.
Mormonism is indeed qualified to be called "another Gospel" like Paul warned about.
The following is from 2 Corinthians 11:3-4:
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
And this from Galatians 1:6:
I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel.
Long live the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
Good article. Very informative regarding the practices.
