MUST READ: Why do people get offended by the preaching of the Christian Cross?

The preaching of the cross is offensive because it condemns the world's evils, sins and demands a new life style from people, including me, whose first duty is to get right and stay right with Almighty God.

Jesus said unto his disciples, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me" (Matthew 16:24).

People are offended by the preaching of the cross also because bloodshed is involved. Blood is ugly and revolting to some people. But blood means life. When you lose all of your blood, then you lose life. As long as your heart is efficiently pumping blood, then you are vibrant and alive.

Blood is life! And the blood of Jesus Christ gives what? Eternal life!

It is through Jesus's sacrifice on the cross that we are also reconciled or made at peace with a wrathful God, are cleansed from our sins - justified by faith and brought into God's presence instead of having to rely on a High Priest to approach God in our behalf.

Then, to some people the preaching of the cross is nonsensical jibber-jabber:

"For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God" (1 Corinthians 1:18).

Do not be offended by the chastising power wielded by the preaching of the cross. For who God loves, He chastises like a father does His wayward children.

People make fun of the cross, but it is one of the most enduring symbols in the history of the world. The Christian cross has been around for centuries as a conscience for the world's evil deeds, like a shining light on the powers of darkness.

Do not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ: The fact that He was crucified, died on the cross, was buried and arose on the third day. Do not be afraid to spread the message all over the world. Tell your friends, family, even though they may laugh at you, mock you, scorn you.

As Paul wrote in the Holy Bible:

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth" (Romans 1:16).

The cross points a finger at our sins and condemns believers and non-believers' sinful ways of life. So, some people are made to feel ashamed, uncomfortable at the least and enraged at the worst by the preaching of the cross.

We do not like to be disturbed in our sins.

Few are indifferent to the preaching of the cross because it disturbs dishonesty, lust, greed, adultery, sexual immorality, etc. The cross demands repentance, love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

All of them are valuable qualities.

Give your valuable life to Christ right now. Honor His sacrifice for you on the cross of crucifixion. Do not wait until tomorrow or later in life like many people say they will do. Deny yourself, take up your cross and come to Jesus.
